2015 Melges 24 World Championship Reaches To 55 Entries

The Melges 24 World Championship 2015 will take place on June 30 until July 5, hosted by Match Racing Denmark in co-operation with the Danish Melges 24 Class Association and IMCA in Middelfart, Denmark. 

Already forty-seven teams from ten countries have registered to race while there are 252 days to go – 14 boats from the hosting country, 13 boats from Norway, 6 boats from Sweden, 5 boats from Germany, 2 boats from Estonia, Finland and Switzerland and with one boat are represented Great Britain, the Netherlands and US so far.

And there are Big Names on the list already! To name only few - 2014 World and European Champion, Franco Rossini’s Blu Moon with Flavio Favini’s team from Switzerland; 2014 Corinthian European Champion, Tõnu Tõniste’s team on Lenny from Estonia; 2012 Corinthian World Champion, Peder Oyvind Jahre’s team Storm Capital Sail Racing from Norway and from far overseas Brucey Ayres’ Monsoon from US, 2009 Corinthian World Champion.

The Melges 24 Danish fleet and Match Racing Denmark are happy to welcome everyone to this event to be held in the middle of Denmark on the island of Funen. Besides superb racing area, you can also enjoy staying at a real castle, where the social events, including the opening ceremony will be held. Hindsgavl Castle is famous for its unique combination of being a classical castle and a modern hotel and will be converted to the clubhouse for the sailors during the World Championship. A special "Melges-24-Worlds-2015-Package" is available for the crews, their families, and officials while staying in Middelfart. To get you the best deal, the organizers have been negotiating event prices with three hotels, which you’ll find at the event’s website.

365 days to go! Large events take time to practice for – and to plan. Match Racing Denmark, who will be hosting the Melges 24 World Championship next summer, attracting top sailors from all over the world to Middelfart, have just launched the event website, opening for entries.

The recently held Melges 24 European Championship 2014 took place in Hungary, at the Balaton Lake, attracting sailors from all over the world. The next large title event in the Melges 24 class will be the World Championship 2015 that takes place in Middelfart, Denmark, next summer – in exactly 365 days - from 30 June to 5 July 2015.

"To some this might seem a long time from now, but it really is not if you know how many things we have to get a grip on - from financing, media-set-up and partners to logistics, staff and accommodation," said Søren Mathiesen Laugesen, Event Manager at Match Racing Denmark, organizer of the World Championship in cooperation with the International Melges24 Class Association. The championship will be raced in the Little Belt south of Middelfart Marina.

Open for entries on new event website
The organizers have just launched the event website, www.melges24worlds15.dk, where sailors, press and visitors can find all necessary information related to the World Championship, incl. signing up for newsletters and press lists. The launch of the website simultaneously marks that the championship is now open for entries. Registration form is available on the event website.

Castle clubhouse and maritime el dorado
To make the stay and the World Championship in Denmark extra memorable, the wonderful Hindsgavl Castle will be converted to clubhouse for the Melges 24 sailors. Additionally, the sailors, their families, all officials and not the least visitors and vacationing families will be able to enjoy the city of Middelfart, a maritime market town in the el dorado of Denmark. Surrounded by water and unique countryside, Middelfart is the perfect base for a holiday, a conference - and a Melges 24 event.
